Just a few notes. I went and saw it with Dustin, who has known the source material much longer than I.

  • Billy Crudup, while a great visual match to Dr. Manhattan, did what I thought was a horrible job at voiceover. There is a difference between sounding detached and sounding bored. Billy Crudup sounded bored.
  • Manhattan’s penis just didn’t look right. I don’t know if it was too high up or what the deal was, but it looked like someone played pin the penis on the superman…and lost.
  • Silk Spectre 1 seemed miscast. I was expecting a sultry, drinking-and-smoking-for-40-years voice. I guess I was expecting Kate Mulgrew.
  • At first I thought the modified ending achieved the same goal as the one in the novel, but with a great deal less exposition necessary. Now that I’ve had some time to reflect on it, though, I think that it leaves on an entirely different note - instead of uniting in exploration and science, everyone just gets scared of this blue nuclear god. A less robust peace, I would expect.
  • I’m glad they left in Nite Owl II’s uh…”trouble”. It’s such a real moment.

Oh, and the new Star Trek trailer that was attached? Oh. My. God.
