aimee-b-loved:Darth VaderAlthough he turns on his evil master in the end, Anakin Skywalker was never a very good father. When his wife was pregnant, he used the Dark Side of the Force to choke the bitch out, leaving his children orphaned. Later, when he learned his son’s whereabouts, he cut off Luke’s right hand, then revealed to Luke that he was, indeed, his father. Simple logic dictates that you should reveal this fact before cutting off your child’s hand. He then demands that Luke continue the family business (Sith Lording) much to Luke’s dismay. If Vader had an ounce of “good father” in him, he’d have delivered the news to Luke a lot more gently.
Alright, Aimee - I’ve got a bone to pick with you.
Anakin’s wife, Padme Amidala, was most certainly not choked to death. Nor was she a bitch. She died during childbirth, having lost all will to live.
She literally died of heartache, after finding out that Anakin had been so corrupted by the dark side of the force to the point of killing all the younglings at the Jedi temple.
Also, I think the majority of Star Wars fans would agree with me that Darth Vader did not intentionally cut off Luke’s hand at the moment that he did. The reason why he revealed to Luke that he was, in fact, Luke’s father is because he was so overcome with conflicted emotions regarding his mission to either kill or convert Luke to the dark side. After he had cut off his hand and saw the pain in Luke’s eyes, some of his fatherly instincts kicked in and he couldn’t help but tell the truth. You could say that he was reaching out - trying to use the moment to bond with his son.
On another note: Darth Vader died saving his son from the pain and suffering that would have rained down upon him by the Emporer’s force-lightning and force-drain powers. Force-lightning is so much worse than you can possibly imagine. The lightning is filled with the dark side of the force - it doesn’t just electrocute you, it attacks every nerve ending in your body. It doesn’t necessarily have to be deadly, but it is always the most painful thing imaginable. People think waterboarding is terrible - HA! - I’d like to see them endure 10% of the force-lightning that Luke had to suffer though over the course of his life.
Luke honored his father with a traditional Jedi funeral, and as Darth Vader’s body became one with the force, his essence was united with that of Obi-Wan’s and Yoda’s. He died a hero, and was honored as a hero and as a Jedi Knight after his death.
For whatever wrongs Anakin Skywalker committed over the course of his many years, he surely atoned for them by saving Luke from torture and an untimely death. Not to mention the fact that he took down the most powerful man in the entire Empire. Who happened to be a dictator.
In some ways, he not only saved Luke’s life, but that of the entire galaxy.
And that, Aimee, is why Darth Vader is most certainly not one of the worst fathers of all time.
…wow.
